Camping in Northeastern Pennsylvania

A Formula for Outstanding Outdoor Experiences

Looking for a way to spice up your unit's camping program? Try our version of "Program Math" by multiplying our two top-notch Scout Camps with the number of things you can do or see at Acahela or Goose Pond. Then multiply that by the four seasons and multiply it yet again by the number of activities you can hit within easy driving distance of either camp. You will end up with more outdoor adventures than your unit will ever have a chance to do! With so many options and the wide variety of camp sites, trails, activities, and lodges, you would have to work really hard at ever getting bored of our camps. And our dedicated staff of professionals and volunteers are working constantly on improving every aspect of  Acahela and Goose Pond. Most of all, you will find a spirit in our camps that we are very proud of - our lands are alive with spirit - Scout Spirit - of all those who went before us and what makes the Scouting program great!

Scouting Resource Centers - More Scouting, Better Support

You may find new facilities, or camps with all the modern amenities, but few camps can match our dedication to your program. If all you want to do is come and camp, we'll set you up with a great site and promise you a good time, but if you want to go home with signed blue cards in hand, or completed requirements, our staff is here to help you. We're recasting our Campmasters so that we can offer a variety of merit badges on site and can also help with your lower ranks. All you need to do is let us know about three to four weeks in advance of your arrival that you want to complete certain requirements or merit badges. We'll work at matching up your needs with our staff to make it work. Unsure of what to do? Our staff has a great deal of experience as former Scout Masters and Commissioners and we know how to get the boys excited about Scouting. We invite you to pick our brains to help create a memorable weekend. Start by contacting Ranger Tim at (570) 335-0283 or e-mail him at tbongard@nepabsa.org

Wonderful Differences, Same High Standards

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Council is blessed with two wonderful camps that together provide Scouts with nearly 800 acres of wilderness.

Camp Acahela in Blakeslee, PA sits on a peninsula formed by the joining of two world-class fishing rivers, the Lehigh River and the Tobyhanna Creek. Acahela boasts 242 acres of variety from heavily wooded ridges and cliffs, to wide open parade fields, to shady groves of ancient fir trees that provide a wide variety of camping opportunities year-round for every type of Scouting unit and a dynamite Cub Scout Resident camping program during the summer months. In the winter we are just minutes from Jack Frost, Big Boulder, Split Rock and all the other ski resorts that the Poconos are famous for. Goose Pond Scout Reservation is renowned for its Summer Resident Boy Scout program and is one of the best examples of a classic Scout Camp anywhere.  Located near Hamlin, PA and Lake Wallenpaupack, Goose Pond is a 200-plus acre glacial lake surrounded by hillsides of  forests rich in evergreens, hardwoods, and other fauna. In addition to the Pond's traditional setting your find one of the region's best C.O.P.E. courses, an unbelievable campfire circle, and more challenges for any type of Scout unit. Staying at the Pond places you close to many of the sites on the northern end of the Pocono Plateau, Scranton, and the tri-state region.
